The old vinyl tile you describe sounds like vct vinyl composition tile and it is tough stuff. As with laying tile over vinyl as long as the subfloor and joists provide a firm foundation the linoleum is well glued down in good shape and clean. Hi i m laying 300mm x 300mm porcelain tiles. You should be able to lay tile or marble over the linoleum. You can t tile over old carpet glue but it s not hard to remove carpet adhesive before tiling. Don t worry it looks a lot worse than it is. But now that you have ripped up the old carpet you ve got a sticky situation.
